Keoladeo Ghana National Park, popularly known as Bharatpur
Bird Sanctuary, is one of the finest national parks in
India, located in the northwestern Indian state of
Rajasthan. Famous as the 'Ornithologist's Paradise,'
Keoladeo Ghana National Park in Bharatpur is world-renowned
for its unique and diverse avifauna. Once a favorite
duck-hunting reserve of the Maharajas, today the Keoladeo
National Park is home to over 400 species of birds,
including some of rare and endangered species. Also the only
manmade wildlife sanctuary in India, Keoladeo was declared a
bird sanctuary in 1956, a national park in March 1982 and a
UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1985. The Keoladeo
Ghana National Park in Bharatpur attracts thousands of bird
lovers, researchers and ornithologists from all over the
world.
The Park opens from sunrise to sunset around the year. The
ticket is Rs 200 per foreign visitor and Rs 25 for Indian
visitor. Vehicles are permitted upto Shanti Kutir about 1.7
kilometres inside at Rs 50 per vehicle. After this you can
choose to walk, bicycle, or go by cycle rickshaw, Tonga or
boat when the water level is high. The cycle rickshaw
wallah’s displaying yellow plate meaning authorised double
up as guides also carry binoculars. Hotels do supply packed
lunches and you can get a bite at a canteen on the second
gate and even at Forest Lodge.

Travel Tips
Light cotton clothing in summer and light woollen garments
are essential during winter. Private vehicles are prohibited
inside the park.

The temperature ranges from 38-45 °C during April-June.
During winters from October to March temperature can drop
below 10 °C.
How To Reach
Bharatpur is located on the Agra-Jaipur highway and is just
about two hours journey from Agra. The nearest railhead is
Bharatpur, which is well connected with Delhi, Jaipur,
Mumbai and other parts of the country.
Bharatpur has a number of hotels and lodges where you can
stay on your tour to Bharatpur. ITDC runs a forest lodge-Saras,
whereas RTDC has a tourist bungalow-Shanti Kutir.
